I have heard the Sub 12 in action which I liked a lot in terms of power, and they seem to be pretty similar to me Keep in mind that I am not an expert in this field, so if I'm missing something please forgive me. Looking at the specs sheets Sub 12 RSW it seems that. Tldr; see main question. The big difference is new vs old in terms on amp failure. The key question is where do you want to be with your bass system.
This is a hard question and not easily answered without some trial and error.
Product Comparison: Klipsch R-120SW vs Klipsch R-112SW
Thank you for your reply! What exactly did you mean by "where do you want to be with your bass system"? Do you mean in terms of position relative to the room and the room size etc? The sub12 doesn't get much love ion here but I have 2 and like them a lot. I know there are much better subs out there but for the price I find them hard to beat.
Yeah I agree, I am quite impressed by it.Photo fun face
Anything on that level or higher will definitely be a significant upgrade for me, that's why I was wondering how it stacked up against the RSW because finding the Sub 12 is going to be harder, but if it ends up being better than the RSW it might be worth looking for it anyway. I am not being negative on the sub What I am saying is that if this sub is for HT and music, there are other things to consider.
How much tactile response, chest slam and pressure response are you looking for. For music a 12 in. If the room is large or the seating further than 10 ft. I had a couple of 12 in. So, I am not saying you will have a bad experience but, stepping up did yield differences. The problem that I faced was not exactly knowing what I was looking for.
I wanted good bass and HT but, without experiencing some stronger systems. I had no reference to judge. I can't answer this question for anyone which is why I mention some trial an error. Most of us start small and say we only need so much.
This is not the same expectation we expect out of the rest of the speaker system.I've read on here that two subs or more are great but I've also read that the SVS subs are far superior to the Klipsch offerings. If you can find the RSW for a couple hundred buy it and try it.
That would be a great score. I am glad I made this thread because I didn't realize the SB was sealed until I was typing the original post and looked at the pictures of the SB again. I'm not unhappy with the Klipsch.
It's a lot better than the Polk PSW it replaced.Jpg to bmp
I was just wondering if I'd be better off going for more sound quality with the same money than adding a second of the same subwoofer. That was really the main point of this thread, I suppose. It pushes a LOT more air than a 12". We are now into the philosophy area where the question becomes "is it better to have two average subs, or one good one? My philosophy is to get one good one, and I like 15's a lot. Black Friday is coming. Subwoofers have never been Klipsch's forte' the only series that I had any respect for were the RSW line and they have been long discontinued.
All the others are mediocre at best. Maybe I'll pick it up considering the price and I could probably resell it easily if it doesn't work out or get a second one down the road for more volume. The room is, I believe, about 10'x15' with probably 11' high ceiling since it's treyed and the Klipsch seems like it fills the room pretty well from the front right corner.
I saw the RSW on sale a Fry's recently and wondered if I should try and get one but I was more looking into the center channel at the time. How is HSU Research? Looks like it might be a bit older but looks like it can get down to 18Hz. There's also a VTFH on eBay that the guy is willing to ship but at lbs, that wouldn't be cheap. I don't know if it possibly being 10 years old should bother me or not, if it was used regularly during that time then it should be just fine I would think.
Or maybe not. I'm quite irritated with myself, I can't believe I let that slip through my fingers. Probably shouldn't have posted about it before I bought it, I'm sure it wasn't hard to find. Brand new? If you were haggling that means a private party so used and no warranty. Go to the SVS website and look at their bargin deals, you will not find a better sub at that price point anywhere!!! Shipping is free and returns also are free, SVS has the best customer service I have ever run into!!!
It was an audio store or something but it was brand new in the box still. I'm ok with no warranty for the price it was. Either way, unless another deal like that pops up or Fry's put the SW on sale again I'll just be keeping what I have, I suppose.
I'll just keep my money and 12SW for now. I love my SVS Sb in a small space for 2. It's sealed, in a huge room in the corner and it still sounds really good for music and movies. For that room I would really need 2 or more large, ported subs to get the full on experience, but the SB13 is quite satisfying. Maybe will add 1 more. I like the sealed, I think it blends better with music, especially with the Klipsch RF-7II, which are quite fast and dynamic.
But less bass energy to the room vs a good ported sub. What I really want are 2 PB16 Ultras in here, but they are huge, and they cost a lot.By justplainlawrDecember 26, in Subwoofers. Can't find anywhere online that discusses the differences between the two of them. Can anyone shed light on the difference between the two?
Is there a technical difference other than the finishing on the cabinets? They are the essentially the same. The RSW is the newer version.
The RSW has copper colored screws around the woofer to match the newest Reference line. They have the same rated frequency range and amplifier output. No real advantage going one over the other unless you specifically want to aesthetically match any other Reference speakers you may be using. I had purchased both to compare I had sent in a support email but haven't heard back yet.
Did you have them in different locations in your room when you tested them? If so, place whichever sub you decide to keep in the spot where the one sounded fuller. Where you place your sub in your room has a huge impact on how it sounds and performs. A lot of that difference could very well be the slight difference in their physical location in your room.
That's why it's always best to experiment with a sub in several different places in your room to see where it sounds the best. You can post now and register later.
